While we don’t get out for date nights as much lately, we still like to try new places when we do get the chance for a kid-free evening. I’d spent some time looking at new restaurants around Atlanta to see what would catch our eye. OSHA Thai Sushi Galleria in Brookwood, with their inventive Thai + Japanese fusion menu, fit the bill. It’s the latest feature in my New Bites series. The restaurant is in the old Saltyard space, which is in the same building as the old Watershed restaurant. There is an outdoor patio and a spacious interior that left plenty of room for space between tables. We were in an area all to ourselves which was especially nice for date night. 🙂 And as you can see from the photos, the decor is absolutely beautiful with lanterns, lovely table decorations and wall murals.
I ordered a Lychee Martini to start and we were able to get in for happy hour so it was half off! (Happy hour is 5-6pm daily). In addition to the drink being delicious, it was also beautiful. I loved the feather and felt very fancy drinking this cocktail.
Sean had a Tiki cocktail which was also yummy. They had numerous cocktails that sounded great, as well as beer and wine. Lots of options!
The menu consists of starters like calamari and gyoza, and there are a number of soup and salad options. We opted to start with a sushi roll – the Sleeping Venus – which had shrimp tempura and cream cheese inside with yellowtail and a truffle ponzu sauce outside. Not only was it good, the presentation was so creative with the sushi placed around a small bridge display with mini flowers. So cool!
For mains, Sean had the Clay Pot Ramen with slow cooked duck breast in eight spices, egg, carrot, spinach and pickled onion. It was rich and satisfying with plenty of umami flavor.
I was immediately drawn to the Egg Crepe Pad Thai Seafood. When we were in Thailand for our honeymoon back in 2014 (when global travel was still possible before the ongoing pandemic restrictions) we had Pad Thai served wrapped in a thin egg crepe on a Bangkok street food tour and had never found anything like it here. This wasn’t the same but it was still very good. Mixing the egg into the warm Pad Thai noodles and seafood beneath made for great bites. The shrimp, mussels and calamari were perfectly cooked and their housemade Pad Thai sauce was the right mix of savory and sweet.
I also need to mention that we had excellent service – the staff were attentive and friendly. All in all, this was a lovely experience and we were happy to support a newcomer to the area. It’s tough out there for restaurants and I wish them much success. Give it a try if you’re looking for a new spot for yummy food.
