Harrison turned one month old on October 5! I can’t believe it’s already been a month with this little nugget. He sure has grown a lot and we’re continuing getting to know each other. I wanted to start a little series for this first year of his life to highlight the monthly changes he’s going through and keep up with the photos to see how he grows. At one month, there have been some challenges but ultimately far more good and lovely moments. Lots of help too from my husband and mom which let me rest and recover. Me and bumpie are continuing to find our way in the breastfeeding journey with me now having plenty of supply and him ever-so-slowly starting to latch for short sessions 1-3 times per day. This means most of my time is spent in some sort of feeding scenario – pump, bottle, breast – but working with lactation specialists has helped me understand that nursing is not completely out of reach (yet) since I’m willing to do the work and be patient. In the meantime, I’m loving Harrison more every day as he grows, snuggles, and makes the most expressive, silly faces. Oh, and he hits himself when he sneezes!
At one month, Harrison is about 9 and a half pounds and mostly out of his newborn clothes but swimming in the 0-3 months sizes.
He is starting tummy time and hates it.
He drinks breastmilk almost 100% of the time. Very, very little formula supplement needed at this stage, but I am pumping pretty much all of that amount right now.
He likes bathtime – the warm water seems to really relax him.
Harrison heads to bed around 9.30/10pm, wakes around 1, then 3.30-4.30, then 6.30/7. It’s pretty exhausting and Sean and I are sleeping in shifts, and I am pumping at 3am and 6am. It is hard.
He sometimes falls asleep on my chest or while we are trying to nurse and those moments are just so sweet.
He’s a very alert baby when awake and so pleasant. Mostly content to hang out with us and look around.
Harrison succumbs to the “witching hour” every night and gets really fussy from about 6-10pm, with multiple feedings in that time. Despite consuming a lot of milk during that time, he doesn’t sleep for longer stretches. We’ll see if this changes over the next month.
