Month 10. Wow. It’s hard to believe how quickly Harrison is approaching his first birthday. These past few weeks have been really hard with Sean traveling almost the entire month of June, and the first several days of July. The good news is that Harrison and I had a lot of time together and we did some fun things. I noticed this month that many of his developments were improvements on what he developed in month nine – rather than numerous completely new developments. Read on!
The biggest news is that Harrison is NOT crawling or walking yet. He likes to stand at the coffee table but can’t pull himself up on his own yet. He’s starting to try though and he’s become aware of how to “ask” us to help him by reaching out to us from certain sitting positions. He’s also learning to move to the side so I don’t think it will be long before he’s moving himself around furniture. We are completely ok with this extra time of a generally immobile baby. We know the craziness will be here soon enough. 😉
Harrison’s personality is starting to develop more. He’s always been pleasant and chill but he’s adding in more expressions, noises, hand motions and movements to communicate with us.
He LOVES food. He makes the cutest little noises of satisfaction when he’s eating something he really likes. This past month we introduced meats with salmon, cod and chicken. Naturally, he loved them all – particularly the salmon. Just like his mama! He still really loves peas, red quinoa, pears, oatmeal, and sweet potatoes. He’s feeding himself more – pieces of squash, beans, fish, chicken, scrambled eggs and Spanish rice are all things he currently loves to pick up and shove into his mouth with his cute little hands.
Water baby. Fish. Lover of splashing and face-dives into the water. This kid is obsessed with being in the water. He literally throws himself forward to get his face in it. I’ve never seen anything like it. He also loves to be dunked, and in the bath we pour water over his head again and again…and again to his smiles and laughs.
Can we talk about how freaking cute Harrison is?!? He has the most beautiful face. I love him so much – especially getting him to laugh. He has a third tooth on the bottom now, and his other two teeth have gotten bigger so his smile is changing – and he’s looking more like a little boy. I’m excited for all of the wonderful things to come. Especially as I start to hear faint “mamamannmanamama” sounds.
He doesn’t (and hasn’t ever) liked to be snuggled. He’ll sit with us or be held but he doesn’t snuggle in. Same thing at night. I still try to rock him before bed but he thrashes around and when I set him in his crib he either 1) Gets excited and rolls around to practice his new “moves” for a while before falling asleep or 2) if he’s really tired will just roll onto his belly, face plant into his mattress and fall asleep. LOL. And he’s generally super happy in the mornings – smiling like crazy, rolling around, squealing at my tickles. Man, how fun!
Harrison is also a social butterfly. If he gets too fussy at home, it’s generally a sign he’s bored and wants to go OUT. Sometimes that’s for a walk, or a bath outside on the deck but other times it’s to dinner or to the park – he loves getting out and about. And he LOVES when he gets to go just him and his dad. And his dad loves it too. And mama loves the quiet time.
I suspect by next month we will have a mover and a shaker but if he’s still not quite there yet, that’s also fine.
This past month we loved visits with Blake and Kathryn, April, Aunt Cherish, Chris, Valerie, Vince and Fiona, Nana and Cindy, and many more friends for Sean’s 39th birthday party! <3
