Save the Basil!

A bit of a sensationalist title, but it can be a real problem. Basil grows beautifully all summer and we get used to cutting fresh leaves for pasta, Caprese salad, infused simple syrups, and yummy additions to lemonade and tea. Then, inevitably, the nights get colder and it stops growing. 🙁 Why can’t we have fresh, delicious basil all winter?

There’s a way! I found this tip on Pinterest and I tried it –

Cut off your basil leaves and put a few in each section of an ice cube tray.

Fill with water (or olive oil, etc.) and freeze.

Pop your “basil ice cubes” out of the trays once frozen and store in pastic bags or tupperware in the freezer until you’re ready to use it.

Problem solved – you now have fresh basil from your garden throughout the winter. 🙂
