After a fun and indulgent long weekend in Savannah, I’ve gotten back to my routine of juicing during the week. I fasted completely on the first day, and then ate one meal each day on the second and third days.
Sometimes I get very hungry, so if I’ve consumed my juice and water and still feel uncomfortably hungry after about 30 minutes, I’ll reach for a small, healthy snack to keep me on track. There are lots of snack products on the market, some are better than others and many are expensive. I think, however, that I’ve found a great solution…
I’ve recently subscribed to a snack delivery service called Graze, which sends me a box with four different kinds of snacks within a calorie limit (this is the “lightbox” option) right to my door for only $5! They choose the snacks for me, then I go on the site and rate them. If I hate something, I can “trash” it and if I want to get something more frequently (like the Super Berry Detox I had the other day) I can “love” it. It’s convenient, delicious, healthy, and a delightful addition to my day. Unfortunately, it’s still invite-only as it’s in beta and I’ve already given out my one invitation. I’ll let y’all know when they open it up to the public.
In the meantime, here is the recipe for this edition of Fresh Juice Friday:
Beet-Ginger Juice
(Originally from 30 Days of Juicing)
I love beets, and if you do too, you’ll also love this recipe. I sometimes add sparkling water to it which makes it very effervescent.
According to WebMD, the body, through a chain reaction, converts the nitrates in beet juice into nitric oxide, a compound that enhances blood flow throughout the body and helps lower blood pressure.
Additionally, in a 2009 study, researchers found nitrates enabled people to exercise up to 16% longer because of nitrates’ ability to reduce oxygen uptake, making exercise less tiring. And they taste delicious? I’m in!
