I’ve been chronicling many parts of our wedding planning journey this past year. I’ve shared things like our engagement photos and party, my bachelorette party, and our fun cake tastings. It seemed to only make sense to also share the wonderful festivities that took place during our amazing wedding week in Tybee Island and Savannah, Georgia.
We rented a gorgeous house on Tybee Island and had my mom, stepdad, dad, brother, brother’s fiance, aunt, and grandparents stay there as well as Sean’s mom and stepdad. His aunt, uncle and cousin rented a house less than a block away.
The house was huge and beautifully decorated – more like a rich, island style than a beach house. There was also an amazing swimming pool, large outdoor deck and hot tub. Perfection! We arrived on September 7th and wasted no time getting into the pool.
Sean and I had dinner in Savannah that night – it was our only date night of the entire week and we were glad for the time alone. We battled the rain and had dinner at Jazz’d Tapas bar. We then met Tyler and Kym for a drink at Molly McPherson’s – a spot we always visit when we’re in Savannah.
The next day it was pretty gloomy and rainy and even though it was only Monday, I couldn’t help but get nervous about what the weather would be on Friday for the wedding! We tried to will the sun to come out by going to the beach under some dark clouds, but the rain came. Tyler and Kym didn’t seem to care – they got in the water anyway. 🙂
We had a pretty low-key afternoon visiting with our families – which turned out to be great since we got busier and busier each day afterward with wedding stuff. That night, Sean’s mom, aunt and cousin made a yummy dinner of lasagna and baked ziti. We all sat around the enormous and beautiful dining room table, talking, laughing and eating. It was exactly the kind of enjoyable evening I’d hoped for when I started planning a vacation with family around our wedding. 🙂
On Tuesday morning, the gray clouds persisted, but there was no more rain. Sean and I went with our moms to the Chatham County Courthouse to get our marriage licence (and that they were allowed to build such ugly buildings at the edge of the beautiful historic district is such a shame!). It was an easy and quick process – but also very fun as strangers congratulated us. 🙂
We then went for a nice brunch, then stopped by Leopold’s for some ice cream. We also picked out flavors for the ice cream bar I’d planned for our rehearsal dinner. Fun!
Sean and his mom were off after that to plan the food for the rehearsal dinner and have Sean’s suit steamed. My mom and I did some shopping along Broughton Street, had a coffee at the Paris Market, people-watched and then had a great lunch at Tequila’s Town – I LOVE their fish tacos!
My mom met up with the rest of the fam who was downtown on a hop-on, hop-off trolley tour while I headed back to the house to rest for a bit. I was getting over a cold and sore throat so I didn’t want to overdo it before the wedding day! I spent the evening with my mom and aunt, chatting in the kitchen over a snacky, hodgepodge dinner (my favorite kind!)
Tyler, Kym, Sean and I went over to Tybee Island Social Club and enjoyed some live music while imbibing at the bar. The bartender gave Sean and I a beer as a wedding gift – so nice. One of the locals told us about a nearby dive bar we could go to once the social club closed. So we did. And a dive it was! But in the best kind of way, a way that took me back to fun and carefree college days. <3 We played cornhole and Kym and I were so terrible that all we could do was laugh hysterically the entire time. I think the boys were sick of us, but oh well. We had a blast!
More to come as I share pics and details of my bachelorette night in downtown Savannah and our rehearsal dinner.
