I’d heard the horror stories about this place running out of food. I then experienced it for myself and cursed their clearly flawed business model. But at the end of the day, the food at Community Q is too damn delicious to ignore. So I go during the week or at lunch on the weekends to ensure I can get my fix of the most fabulous pulled chicken one could ever hope to eat. Continue reading

New Bites: Las Delicias de la Abuela
Ah, Buford Highway. You never disappoint and in the case of Las Delicias de al Abuela, you exceed expectations. This Colombian restaurant recently moved to the building right next door to the Buford Highway Farmers Market and is always busy! That’s a good sign so Sean and I decided to check it out a few weeks ago while his mom was in town. Continue reading
New Bites: Nam Phuong Vietnamese, Buford Highway
Ok, so this isn’t technically a New Bite because this was our 2nd time – but we brought a group of 6 adults and 3 kiddos and it was THEIR first time. So I’m including it as part of my New Bites series. 😉
Nam Phuong is definitely in the “must-go” set for Vietnamese in Atlanta as a whole and Buford Highway specifically. Their menu is large and full of variety – traditional pho to strange combinations of odd cuts of pork and everything in between. Continue reading
New Bites: Food Terminal
The owners of local Atlanta restaurants Top Spice and Sweet Hut Bakery – both very successful with multiple locations – opened a Malaysian + Asian street food-focused restaurant to Buford Highway called Food Terminal. After driving by it on several occasions and seeing all the Atlanta food bloggers sharing yummy-looking photos from all the media events, we decided we had to try it sooner rather than later. Continue reading
Strawberry-Picking – and a Low-Sugar Freezer Jam Recipe!
Ah, spring. I love the flowers in bloom, the warmer days but nights that are still cool, thunderstorms, and the start of the plethora of produce that the sunshine brings. Of all the wonderful things about spring, I think I love strawberries the most. I remember my dad taking me and my brother strawberry-picking in Ohio when we were little kids. Sweet, juicy strawberries that I would pluck and eat despite me dad scolding me not to – the idea of pay-by-weight was not something I could comprehend back then, lol!
I’d heard there were strawberry patches north of Atlanta so Sean and I planned a day with several of his other friends who have kids and we borrowed our little “niece” Val from my best friend, Cherish. Val loves strawberries like me, so it was the perfect outing for us. <3 Continue reading
New Bites: Empire State Pizza and Growlers
Sean had been at a birthday party for a friend and overheard folks talking about a dive pizza place with a large craft beer selection. After I started my new job a few weeks ago, Sean pointed out that the place was near my office and we should to check it out. So one Friday after work he came to see my new office and then we drove to Empire State Pizza and Growlers. Continue reading
New Bites: Dinner at Amara Kitchen and Bar
This is the first post in a new series I’m starting here on My Homemade Life called “New Bites.” I often want to showcase the great and delicious restaurants we’re eating at and recipes we’re making at home, so I hope you’ll all enjoy this new project. This is not a restaurant-review initiative – I am NOT being paid to or given free things for my feedback. This is simply MY personal experience trying new restaurants and recipes as a beloved hobby and part of my life.
First up is our dinner experience at Amara Kitchen and Bar – a new Indian-American restaurant in Inman Park, Atlanta. We snagged a Scoutmob Hand-Picked deal for this outing, which was a deal that let us sample a few different dishes and drinks. Continue reading
Grandma’s Best Chocolate Cake
We always had chocolate cake growing up and it was always the same recipe – the one my grandma had made for my mom growing up. It was always so moist, not too sweet and topped with light and fluffy chocolate frosting. I decided to make this cake for Sean for Valentine’s Day this year because he LOVES chocolate. It’s an easy recipe that comes together quickly. Continue reading
