Healthy Eats for the Air

I recently wrote a post about eating healthy on road trips, which is pretty easy because I can take whatever I want and have plenty of space for coolers in my car. But what about when flying? I’ve never liked eating at airports for cost reasons, but on my recent trip to Denver I had to make sure everything I packed was healthy, too.

Luckily, I’d recently found some great, healthful, and delicious items that I thought would be very travel-friendly and that the bf would love. Check out the list…. Continue reading

Juice Fasting 101: Getting Started

This is part 2 of my mini series on juice fasting. After completing my Arden’s Gardens 2-Day Juice Cleanse/Detox, eating raw foods for breakfast and lunch for two weeks after, and doing my own juice fasts each week for three weeks in a row, I received a lot of questions. The first post covered the basics – what is a juice cleanse, why juicing is important, and the main benefits/results you can expect.

This post will focus on the how-to: how to do a juice cleanse, what you need to get started, and some recipes to keep you going. Continue reading

Juice Fasting 101: What Is It?

It’s been a month since my Arden’s Gardens 2-Day Juice Cleanse/Detox, but the wonderful effects have continued. I ate raw foods for breakfast and lunch during the week for two weeks, then planned a one-day juice fast to do every week. The one-day juice fast made feel so great that I extended it to two days – and I’m now on my third week in a row of this routine.

As I’ve shared my experiences into the brand-new world (to me) of green juices and smoothies, I’ve received plenty of feedback and questions from all of you. So I decided to create a mini-series of posts to talk more about it. This post focuses on defining what juicing is and what some of the main benefits are. The second post will cover all that you need to do to get started juicing. Continue reading

Curry For The Road

Road trips, weekend trips, vacations – all of these are fun, and things I look forward to. The downside? Eating on the road, unfortunately, leaves few options for good, quality food. That’s why I started making my own food and bringing more healthful snacks. This curried chicken salad is a delicious and healthy on-the-go dinner for a drive out of town. Now I can skip the burgers and chicken nuggets AND get to my destination faster.  Continue reading

One-Day Juice Fast

I had such an overall positive experience with my Arden’s Garden cleanse/detox that I’ve decided to try to do a weekly, one-day juice fast. I’ve been making green smoothies (in a blender) and green juices (in a juicer), and so I’ve got enough variety in recipes to have some good and healthful drinks for an entire day.

I’m doing this for several reasons – health, detoxifying the system, the challenge of not eating whole foods, and the commitment to raw foods that I use when coming out of a cleanse/fast. It’s a reset and a preset, all in one!

Here’s what’s on the menu for today (and you can find additional recipes here): Continue reading

Post-Cleanse Eats

It’s been about a week and a half since I completed my first juice cleanse, and I’m happy to report that I’m still very much on track. I went out frequently while my parents were visiting last weekend, but I made every effort to order better options and to have snacks between meals to prevent over-eating.

I feel great, and have continued to eat raw foods for breakfast and lunch all this week. It can be challenging – salads can get boring quickly! – so I decided to share some of what I’ve been eating with you, in case you need some inspiration. Continue reading

How I Survived My First Juice Cleanse

We’ve started a “Summer Slim Down/Fitness Challenge” here at work and I decided to participate. Like many others, weight and fitness are a constant struggle for me and while I find that I do a great job at avoiding fast food and casual dining chain restaurants, I’ve really struggled with portion control and overall cleaner eating on a daily basis.

With the help and advice of a colleague who’s transformed her life through healthy habits, I decided to join the “competition” with plans to make long-term changes of my own. I started this week, at her suggestion, with a two-day cleanse from Arden’s Gardens. Two whole days without eating – could I survive? Continue reading
