The Top 13 Things I Ate in 2023

It’s hard for me to believe this is my seventh year making this year-end list of the best things I ate. I did quite a bit of traveling this year including a few works trips to NYC, Las Vegas and Orlando and vacations in Western NC + Charlotte area, Atlanta, Williamsburg, VA, Raleigh, NC, and Melbourne, FL. I had great meals while in these places in addition to some outstanding dishes on the Outer Banks and in our home.  Continue reading

The Top 14 Things I Ate in 2022

2022 turned out to be a great year for food. Although we moved from Atlanta to a much smaller community in the Outer Banks, NC, we managed to have a wide variety of food experiences in both our new home and on all of our fun travels. This is the sixth year of my annual wrap-up of my top eats and I still love making this list so much. I hope you enjoy seeing our year through the tasty food we ate. Cheers! Continue reading

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico: Markets, Arts & Crafts, Delicious Eats and ALL the Views

Sean’s dad picked us up from Barbara Porter’s place in Centro the morning after the Dia del Los Muertos festivities and we went to the Tuesday market and breakfast of barbacoa tacos with consume, and some shopping. This was absolutely a locals place and we loved it. Fresh produce, butchers, tortillas, clothes, kitchen items, toys – this place had it all. Great experience. Continue reading

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico: Sightseeing and Dia de los Muertos

For our first trip out of the country since we went to Japan in November of 2017, we headed south of the border to visit my in-laws in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. They moved there/retired there shortly after Harrison was born in 2018 and this was our first visit to see them there – as well as my first time in Mexico. Our trip coincided with Dia de Los Muertos so we went all out and brought costumes, had our faces painted and even joined in the parade around the town square (Centro). This is the first of three posts about our time in this beautiful and historic mountain town. Continue reading

A (Holiday) Weekend in Williamsburg, Virginia

Sean and I spent a weekend exploring Williamsburg, Virginia during the two weeks we spent in Manteo at my mom’s. It had been more than eight months since Sean and I had had a night away from Harrison so I wanted to take advantage of having help from family to get away for Sean’s birthday. Williamsburg is only a two and a half hour drive from Manteo and I had not been there since I was in college; Sean since he was a kid so we decided to go back.  Continue reading

Summer Trips with Family and Grandma’s 90th Birthday!

It’s been a big year for family! We’ve had lots of visits from grandparents here in Atlanta, as well as a combined trip to Savannah with both mine and Sean’s moms and stepdads, and two weeks in the Outer Banks with my mom’s side of the family. Spending time with and celebrating my grandma’s 90th birthday has been wonderful. Here are some of the special photos from this memorable family time. Continue reading

New Tastes and Old Favorites: 2021 Savannah Eats

Each year we spend about a week in Savannah and if you’ve been you know it’s not a very big city. That’s absolutely part of why we like it so much. Yet for a small city there is a surprising amount of diversity in the food scene and it continues to grow year after year. For our trip this year around Memorial Day weekend, we also noticed that the city itself has grown with the addition of the new Plant Riverside District along the river front. Multiple new buildings with hotels, shops, and restaurants have greatly expanded the footprint in the area. We were excited to try some of the new food spots this year as well as visit some of our longtime favorite ones.  Continue reading
