I had heard the saying that once a person has children, time really accelerates and as Harrison turns three years old, I am finding that to be accurate. I can’t believe my baby boy is already three. He is an absolute joy and the light of our lives. We love being around his funny, curious, friendly and silly personality and watching him explore the world around him. I’ve captured highlights from his birthday party as well as the past six months from my last update when he turned 2 and a half.
Two years without visiting the wonderful mountain town of Brevard and the surrounding land of waterfalls is too long! I remedied that with a fairly hastily planned long weekend in this Western North Carolina wonderland. We even had a bonus with this trip – we got to see our friends and neighbors who had just moved to this area. Sean and I always like to go on a double-date with my brother and sister-in-law when we’re visiting family in the Outer Banks. We try to eat at new restaurants and this time was no exception. Sean and I spent a weekend exploring Williamsburg, Virginia during the two weeks we spent in Manteo at my mom’s. It had been more than eight months since Sean and I had had a night away from Harrison so I wanted to take advantage of having help from family to get away for Sean’s birthday. It’s been a big year for family! We’ve had lots of visits from grandparents here in Atlanta, as well as a combined trip to Savannah with both mine and Sean’s moms and stepdads, and two weeks in the Outer Banks with my mom’s side of the family. Atlanta’s Buford Highway is a miles long stretch of diverse, international eats that spans multiple towns and goes all the way into the North Atlanta suburbs. I have Buford Highway 101 and Buford Highway 201 posts that go into some great spots to try. But Thai food has always proved somewhat elusive along the Buford Highway corridor so when I saw a new Thai street-food style place had opened up, I knew I had to try it. Each year we spend about a week in Savannah and if you’ve been you know it’s not a very big city. That’s absolutely part of why we like it so much. Yet for a small city there is a surprising amount of diversity in the food scene and it continues to grow year after year. For our trip this year around Memorial Day weekend, we also noticed that the city itself has grown with the addition of the new Plant Riverside District along the river front. Multiple new buildings with hotels, shops, and restaurants have greatly expanded the footprint in the area.
