Out and About: Refugee Benefit with Talat Market and Fresh Harvest

We’ve been Fresh Harvest customers for awhile now and couldn’t be bigger fans of the company. As our CSA (community-supported agriculture), we receive a weekly produce basket from Georgia farms delivered right to our door. They also sell meat, dairy, and other specialty products from vendors on their site and those can be delivered with the produce. We’ve drastically improved the quality of vegetables and protein in our house with them. Fresh Harvest takes everything back to reuse – the box, the ice packs and the foil packs. And as if that weren’t enough, they’re based in Clarkston, GA – a refugee resettlement community – and hire many refugees. I cannot say enough about this company and how much it means to us to be a small part of this.

When I heard that they were doing a benefit for refugees with Talat Market, an incredible pop-up Thai restaurant that uses local Southern ingredients and was on Bon Appetit’s 50 Best New Restaurants last year, I knew we had to attend. That it fell on Sean’s birthday weekend was icing on the (birthday) cake. 😉 Continue reading

Outer Banks Vacation + Family Time 2019

Tyler and Kym (my brother and sister-in-law) bought a house on the Outer Banks last fall and we finally got to go out there to visit them and see it! It’s truly the perfect house for them, complete with a saltwater pool and gorgeous lake views, while only being a 5-minute drive to the beach. It was the perfect way to spend a 5-day Memorial Day weekend. Trust me, we did NOT want to leave. We had so much fun! Continue reading

New Bites: El Tesoro

El Tesoro is a Mexican cafe and daytime restaurant in Edgewood that has opened recently and been on our radar to check out. We had some friends visiting from out-of-town who wanted to meet up at an in-town spot for breakfast, so we suggested this place. It’s absolutely charming from the outside – a slightly run-down building from the outside with colorful signage, paint and flags, and clean and bright on the inside. Read on to see what we tried at this new restaurant as part of my New Bites series. Continue reading

The Baby Chronicles: Harrison Jeffrey at 8 Months

Month eight! The month we finally kicked a number of ailments from Harrison’s time at daycare including hand, foot and mouth, and a Noro virus, along with a pesky cough that hung around for a loooong time. It was wonderful to finally have my baby feeling and acting like his abundantly happy and sweet self again.

There were some BIG developments this month for Harrison – read on! Continue reading

Springtime Adventures in Orlando, Florida

I went to Orlando the week before Easter for a conference for work and planned ahead for a long weekend for Sean, Harrison and Daniela to come down. We rented a townhouse off Disney property (so affordable by comparison) that had a beautiful patio with hot tub and lake views, and a big pool, waterslides, etc. on the property. A relaxing Florida weekend in the spring and an opportunity to see our Florida friends and family. Of course, it rained the first night and was too cold to swim the next day (ugh), but the weather was still great for getting out and about. Continue reading

New Bites: San Pancho

A local find that we’ve now been to a couple of times, San Pancho is a great spot for casual and fast authentic Mexican food. Located in a small plaza off of Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker, GA, this hole-in-the-wall is tiny – about 30 seats – and almost always busy, especially on the weekends. In addition to the delicious food, there is a small salsa bar and specialty drinks like agua fresca and horchata. Read on for more as part of my New Bites series. Continue reading

The Baby Chronicles: Harrison Jeffrey at 7 Months

Happy 7 months to my sweet boy. And what a month it has been. To say it’s been busy is an understatement. And I hate to even go on about being “busy” – we genuinely do not try to be “busy” for some kind of weird status symbol. We try to have plenty of downtime and a routine for our baby but this month was full of challenges. We’ve gotten through with help from family and friends, a bit less sleep than usual, and a lot of patience and grace toward our situation and with each other. The good news is our baby continues to be healthy and strong, and full of wonderful curiosity that brightens our days.  Continue reading
