Another fun wedding anniversary weekend in Savannah, Georgia is in the books! We have our traditions, but always like to add in new things and this trip was no exception!
When we arrived on Friday night, Sean arranged for us to have an upgrade to a suite at the Holiday Inn Historic District. The hotel staff also gave us a gift card to lunch at a local Greek yesterday. What a great way to begin our celebrations!
Sean made us dinner reservations at Pacci Italian Kitchen and Bar so we hopped in an Uber shortly after hotel check-in. We started our meal with a lovely burrata, marinated heirloom tomatoes, arugula, balsamic glaze and toasty ciabatta bread. Absolutely delicious. I had a pasta with all things briney – capers, anchovies, olives, pepperonici, etc. It was so tasty.
At the end of the meal, they brought us out a small basket fill with flowers and a little card for our anniversary. How sweet! And quite a way to make an impression on us. Definitely recommend this place.
After dinner, we headed over to Southbound Brewing to buy a beer – the first day it was legally allowed in Georgia! Cheers.
Back at the hotel, we had some Veuve Cliquot champagne and opened our gifts to each other. Year 3 material is leather so I got Sean and leather toiletry bag made from boar. He travels so much for work and I wanted him to have a nice bag that will last. It also had his initials on it.
Sean had the below custom designed by our friend David with our wedding vows and a heart in Savannah where we got married. An Etsy artist printed it on leather (the year 3 material) and framed it. So fantastic. <3
Saturday was a pretty relaxing day. We walked along River Street, where there was an artists market and then had lunch at the Olympia Cafe and Sean ordered a pina colada “to go.”
We did some shopping, stopping in all sorts of unique places along Savannah’s beautiful squares.
After a rest at the hotel, we decided to check out Service Brewing since it was just across the street. We had some solid beers and played darts, then returned to the hotel to get ready for dinner.
Our main activity of the night was our cocktail hour at Perch and dinner at Local 11Ten, our annual tradition. We ordered the Chef’s tasting menu this year along with wine pairings, and while the food was good, we found the value to be pretty off. We had four very small courses including dessert which was a cake that was a little too dry. The wine pairing was also pricey for 3 3-ounce pours each and a 1 ounce pour of a dessert wine.
To their credit, they took 20% off the bill for the dry cake and brought us out some prosecco sorbet. I really love this place but probably wouldn’t do the Chef’s tasting again at those prices unless they increased the course to include a soup/salad course or increased the portion sizes a bit.
All in all, though, a good day!
And Sunday turned out to be just as fun but completely different! We got a fairly early start out to Tybee and spent several hours relaxing on the beach, reading, swimming in the warm water, and enjoying a picnic lunch.
Once back at the hotel, we headed to the pool for some more sun and water. We probably could’ve napped at this point but were hungry so we decided to power through and head out, with a first stop for a slice of pizza and a cold beer at the amazing dive that is Vinnie Van Go-go’s in City Market.
We spent a long time walking around Ellis Square, people-watching and talking before walking to the edge of the historic district for a little sushi.
I decided I wanted to see sunset so we called an Uber and headed back across town to get to the top of the Bohemian Hotel just in time to see the sun dip below the horizon and the sky fill with colors behind the bridge and the river. Ahhhh.
Churchill’s Wine Bar was a new stop for us this year and one we thoroughly enjoyed – great service, good prices on wine and yummy food – the whipped feta appetizer was awesome.
We decided to walk a bit and hit up The Distillery on the way back to our hotel. A bit more walking than we’d anticipated had us getting there just before last call but the bartender was awesome and let us hang out to try some really yummy beers.
Sometimes we spend a good part of Sunday in Savannah and don’t head back until the mid-late afternoon. This time, we slept in and decided to have brunch/lunch then head home. We ate at Blowin’ Smoke Cantina and though I’d wanted to try this place for a few years, I was disappointed. I think we may have ordered wrong, but nonetheless we didn’t feel our food was that great.
My favorite store Nourish was having a big sale and I decided I had to pick up a few more things before we left, so we did that after lunch and grabbed some tea and coffee for the road.
Sean and I discussed trying a new place next year. I love Savannah and still want to go at least once a year but we know it well enough to do over a regular weekend. It would be nice to try out some new places with the long Labor Day weekend. I’ll be sure to let you know where we decide. 😉
