Baby Ellis is a BOY!

IMG_0912And we’re so excited! I had blood work done at week 12 and we were able to find out the gender at week 14. Being the weirdos that we are, we did our gender reveal a little differently – we knew and we had the party to tell our family and friends.

We set up the reveal a bit differently with various items around our house in both blue and pink, so as not to give away anything to our guests. Pink flowers, blue plates, pink napkins, blue balloons, pink grapefruit bars…it was fun! dsc_0285edsc_0284e

I set out a bunch of different mixers and made up some cocktails so people could imbibe or abstain. Fresh grapefruit juice, homemade kombucha, club soda, sparkling lemonade, homemade ginger syrup were just some of the beverages ready to tasty combos. This was a big hit – I saw lots of people making drinks from my little menu. I also think, as we get older, not as many of us like to drink alcohol in the middle of the day (not that I was anyway! 😉 )dsc_0283e

For food, our menu was brunch-style and all intended to be set out and enjoyed at everyone’s leisure, to feel relaxing and luxurious at the same time (and keep us from having to cook while our friends and family were there!)

We made gravlax (salt-cured salmon), blood orange scones, pimento cheese, Zahav’s hummus, corn and asparagus salad, and citrus bars (lemon, lime, grapefruit), and we had a ham. Served with JR’s incredible sourdough and rye breads, bagels, buns, various veggies and chips for dipping, and all the condiments.dsc_0280edsc_0287eIMG_0887

After brunch, we served up a lemon-blueberry cake from Publix (sorry, I had to admit I couldn’t do it all and get help) that was light and delicious. Then it was down to business – telling our friends and family the gender of our baby nugget.

Sean shared some stories about how we hoping for twins (lies – that was only him) and got everyone to laugh. I then let everyone know that the gender reveal was one item out of all the blue and pink things..and it was…the cake! Those blueberries were the giveaway! Seeing everyone’s reaction was awesome. So fun!

We also announced his name – Harrison Jeffrey. Sean and I have had “Harrison” picked out since before we were married – it was a name we both really liked that felt classic, not trendy, and not too religious. “Jeffrey” is for my lovely Uncle Jeff, who passed away last year and had Down Syndrome.

And then it was time for pics of the dogs. Mom with Henry, Stella sunbathing and Peggy Sue in her party dress.dsc_0289edsc_0282eIMG_0909

It was so great to have our moms and Sean’s stepdad there for this. They came on fairly short notice and helped make the day extra special! dsc_0310e

Harrison is already a lucky boy to be surrounded by so much love. <3
