Sean and I love our sweet pups and are happy that they get along so well. Chelsea is 11 and Stella is 3 and while they’ve only known each other for about two and a half years, they play like they’ve been together forever!
I wanted to have them wear something matching during the wedding. They weren’t a part of the ceremony, but were with us throughout the first part of the day and for the festivities leading up to the wedding day. I didn’t want to get them dresses or shirts because I knew the weather would be warm.
I had the idea one day to wrap their collars with leftover fabric from my wedding dress and then add bows – the perfect solution! See how I did it:
I had to wait until my dress came in and my alterations were done before I could get the excess fabric. I’m short and so there as A LOT of tulle leftover from the hemline – giving me extra in case I messed up. I’m not the craftiest of gals, but figured I could handle this simple project!
I unrolled the tulle and straightened it out a bit. I realized it was pretty transparent and I would need to either fold it before wrapping the collars or wrap the collars with a few layers. I decided to fold the fabric as I went and overlapped a bit. Note: this fabric will make the collar smaller for your dog, so be sure to adjust it by an inch or two depending on the size of your dog.
I didn’t glue the ends to the collar. I just wrapped the tulle a little tighter at the end, tucked the end through a previous loop and concealed the end piece. I’ll admit I wasn’t in love with this look at first – I thought it was poofy and it wasn’t obvious it was tulle from my wedding gown.
However, when we added the bows – which I made from leftover ribbon I’d used to create name cards for the reception – I thought it looked much more put-together.
All finished and ready for our sweet pups to wear. I was so excited to have them in something matching that was also meaningful to our wedding day!
I’m unsure if they were as excited about their fancy, custom dog collars as I was – but they were troopers!
Our wedding photos with them turned out so well and I think this very inexpensive and simple project was a wonderful touch to our furry little loves.
