Gluten-free: Days 12-18

timthumbThis week included a cheat day for me. For Sean, however, there were several. I don’t think this experiment is meant to include cheat days, but Sean did have tickets for a beer fest and we had some other plans that involved beer. We could have abstained, but in reality we are not going to quit drinking beer. There was no “perfect” time to do this challenge, so we knew going in that life would just go on.

Day 12:

I had sushi, an apple and gluten-free pizza, as well as wine. Sean was at the beer festival so he had beer and a starchy breakfast. He did have gluten-free pizza with me.

Day 13:

Breakfast: Egg sandwiches on gluten-free bread
Lunch: Roasted chicken, squash, red potatoes
Dinner: We went to the event Atlanta Eats Live and while we did our best to choose gluten-free and request buns to be left off of sliders, etc. we slipped up on a dish that included risotto. 🙁 We’re still learning.

Days 14:

Breakfast: Apple
Lunch: Salad with beets, peas and cucumbers and white chili with turkey
Dinner: 5oz. Filet mignon, garlic mashed red potatoes and steamed broccoli

Day 15:

Breakfast: Apple (I know – lots of apples! We’re still eating the ones we picked up in Ellijay – so yummy!)
Lunch: Leftovers of steak, mashed potatoes and broccoli
Dinner: Shrimp green curry with brown rice and vegetables

Day 16:

Lunch: We tried the gluten-free options at Yeah! Burger. I had a turkey burger with gluten-free bun, and gluten-free onion rings. Honestly, I could’ve left all of it. I’m not craving bread, pasta, etc. at all.
Dinner: This began my cheat day. I’d planned an outing at a brewery. My boyfriend also proposed right before the event started, so I was definitely going to enjoy a cold beer with my new fiance! I had Korean tacos for dinner – on flour tortillas as that’s all that was available. Sean had bibimbap, which was gluten-free.

Day 17:

Breakfast: Apple
Lunch: Chipotle salad with guacamole, black beans, peppers and onions and corn salsa. This is a very satisfying lunch!
Dinner: Spicy California roll and leftover sesame french fries from the Korean restaurant

Day 18:

Breakfast: Apple
Lunch: Deviled eggs, tortilla chips with salsa and guacamole, chicken salad with rice crackers, and cheese
Dinner: Korean leftovers
Dessert: Strawberry cheesecake ice cream

This week was much less scheduled as far as meals, and it was indeed harder to make good choices. However, I think I did great in all cases and stuck to gluten-free every day except the cheat day. Our last day of this challenge is next Thursday, October 17 – we extended it a few days since we had cheat days this week. We’ll be making some spaghetti squash with a meat sauce for dinner next week. Yum!

  1. Nice! But unless there was something in the risotto that wasn’t GF…that should have been GF? Not sure why it was a slip-up. We make/eat risotto all the time. 🙂 Have enjoyed reading about your 3-week challenge!
