Healthy Eats for the Air

I recently wrote a post about eating healthy on road trips, which is pretty easy because I can take whatever I want and have plenty of space for coolers in my car. But what about when flying? I’ve never liked eating at airports for cost reasons, but on my recent trip to Denver I had to make sure everything I packed was healthy, too.

Luckily, I’d recently found some great, healthful, and delicious items that I thought would be very travel-friendly and that the bf would love. Check out the list….

Snacks that will last the entire trip (flight, on-the-go in Denver, etc.)

  •  Mary’s Gone Crackers – these are probably the healthiest crackers in existence and are organic, non-GMO, gluten free and kosher. There are a variety of flavors and I love them plain, with hummus or with various toppings.
  • TrueBar by Bakery on Main –  these are the best tasting snack bars I have ever had. The coconut cashew bar (pictured below) is SO GOOD. There are a variety of flavors, all under 200 calories and with anywhere from 4-8 grams of protein.
  • Pumpkin Seeds – I also picked up a package of pumpkin seeds, which travel very well.

 Snacks for the airport/plane ride:

  • Roots hummus – the yummiest hummus you can buy.
  • Carrots – for dipping in the hummus, or eating plain
  • Fresh pear – to have something sweet and for another raw food item

Dinner at the airport:

  • Organic peanut butter and jelly sandwiches – I love peanut butter and jelly and think it makes a great travel sandwich, as it holds up really well (doesn’t get too soggy, etc.). This sandwich has local strawberry fig jam on it straight from the North Georgia mountains. YUM!

All in all, we had a very satisfying and healthy dinner and snacks during our travels, and have healthy snacks for the duration our time in Denver. It does take planning, but in the end we saved money and calories, and avoided as much processed food as we could. I’d love to hear from y’all – how do you eat well when traveling?
