If I could give one gift to the people in my life, it would be the gift of knowing yourself. I feel that all progress I make in my life spiritually, emotionally, and professionally is a direct result of knowing myself.
- When you know yourself, jealousy dissipates
- You no longer care what others think, and it is a freeing way to live
- You face adversity, and are strong in knowing you can overcome any challenge
- You know you’ll be wrong – and are humble enough to make it right
- You celebrate the good, and understand it as a source of peace and strength
- You can be alone
- You are on the path to loving yourself, so you can truly love others
- You trust your place in the world
The key to life – a happy life – is to know yourself.
I see the “being alone” part as an acid test when getting to know someone. People who dread the thought of spending a weekend by themselves; or worse: the ones who postpone ending a bad love relationship until they can secure another partner. If they cannot stand their own person, why would anyone else like them?
I agree completely, Alex – and I generally feel sad for those people – they go through life completely dependent on the presence of another person.
Thanks for the comment, hope you’re doing well!
