Sean and I had a date night this past weekend and cycled through many different options and places before deciding to try Casi Cielo in Sandy Springs. We had an excellent experience all around and so I’m adding this to my New Bites series.
Casi Cielo is an Oaxacan-style Mexican restaurant on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs, Georgia. I’d been following them on Instagram for months and was excited to finally get to try the place. It was in the bottom of a new apartment building and we found parking easily in the parking garage behind the building.
The restaurant was GORGEOUS. There was a wrap-around outdoor patio and a huge bar area with high tops, walls of windows, a unique wood ceiling, ornate light fixtures and romantic drapery. A perfect spot for a date night or special occasion dinner, for sure!
We arrived around 6.30 on a Saturday night and easily secured seats at the bar. We ordered cocktails – I had the Chilerita with Herradura Silver Tequila, Framboise, Chamoy, Lime Juice, Muddled Orange, and a Valentina Rimmed Grasshopper Salt rim (very unique!) and Sean’s was the Padre Querido with Premium Padre Azul Blanco, Xicaru Mezcal, Orange Juice, Lime juice, Chili powder rim garnished with roasted rosemary. Cheers!
We ordered the Croquetas de Platana – Fried plantains with manchego cheese and salsa de mole rojo. They were crispy on the outside with soft, sweet plantains made savory with the cheese. Definitely something new for us!
Another view of these very cool and delicious Valentina salt rims.
Sean and I shared the duck with mole for our main course. Tender, pull-apart and flavorful duck carnitas with red onions, cilantro, and black mole, and a side of rice and black beans. The black corn tortillas were incredible – these were some of the yummiest tacos I’ve had in awhile. There were so many other things on the menu I’d like to try like the salmon and various enchiladas so we will absolutely return. I recommend this place for anyone looking for different Mexican flavors and dishes, and a fun, vibrant spot for dinner.
