New Bites: El Tesoro

El Tesoro is a Mexican cafe and daytime restaurant in Edgewood that has opened recently and been on our radar to check out. We had some friends visiting from out-of-town who wanted to meet up at an in-town spot for breakfast, so we suggested this place. It’s absolutely charming from the outside – a slightly run-down building from the outside with colorful signage, paint and flags, and clean and bright on the inside. Read on to see what we tried at this new restaurant as part of my New Bites series.it wasn’t too busy at 9am on a Sunday and we were able to peruse the menu and check out the eclectic interior before ordering.

Harrison had lots to consider…for future visits, ha!

Sean had a drip coffee and I had a horchata with a shot of espresso. It was really good although I wish it had been served in a glass versus the disposable cup, lid and straw since we were dining in. :/

Nice patio with umbrellas to keep the heat off – and a little grassy areas for kiddos to run around.

We ordered one of each breakfast taco: Frijalero, Migas, Chorizo con Papas, Ranchero, Fronterra. I liked the Ranchero with the Mexican hot dogs, scrambled eggs and seared onion, and the Frijalero with refried black beans, eggs, queso cotija, and pico de gallo the best. All were very fresh tasting. LOTS of vegetarian options on this menu – even a soy chorizo!

Frijalero on the far right, and the chorizo one on the left.

Ranchero on the right with Mexican hot dogs.

Sean and his friend Oliver with their baby boys, just two months apart, Harrison and Bash, respectively.

Rex hanging out with baby Harrison, so sweet!

Oh, how could we NOT get churros?!? They were delicious. Sweet, crunchy, warm, soft of the inside and perfectly spiced. YUM.

I liked this place. It’s far for us so not sure when we’ll be back. I’d like to try lunch. I thought the breakfast menu was a little limited and was more interested in the menu lunch items plus their daily specials are only at lunchtime. I think this is a great addition to the Edgewood neighborhood and I wish these guys nothing but the best.
