Ok, so this isn’t technically a New Bite because this was our 2nd time – but we brought a group of 6 adults and 3 kiddos and it was THEIR first time. So I’m including it as part of my New Bites series. 😉
Nam Phuong is definitely in the “must-go” set for Vietnamese in Atlanta as a whole and Buford Highway specifically. Their menu is large and full of variety – traditional pho to strange combinations of odd cuts of pork and everything in between. The most annoying thing about this place is the parking. At dinnertime on the weekend – and even some weeknights – it’s completely packed. We’ve parked at the mall across the street but running across 7 highway lanes at night wasn’t my favorite. The next time, we went before 7pm and had no issues in their parking lot.
Sean and I make spring rolls at home – we learned how in a cooking class in Vietnam on our honeymoon. We always like to try them when we go to new Vietnamese spots. The ones at Nam Phuong were ok – plenty of filling but a little lacking in flavor so you really needed the sauce.
The cubed rice dish was a hit at our table – even with the kiddos who seemed to really like the fun shapes (probably reminded them of breakfast potatoes, ha!). The egg and scallions on top were clutch.
I had the Shaking Beef or “bo luc lac” which is their house specialty of cubed, marinated beef tenderloin and onions over greens with fried rice. It’s been perfectly tender and flavorful each time I’ve had it. So, so delicious.
Sean had Hanoi-style Bun. Bun is a bowl of vermicelli (rice) noodles with various toppings. Hanoi-style means it comes deconstructed and you put the ingredients together yourself in the bowl however you prefer. I think he really enjoyed it and the few bites I had were delicious. Others in our group had goat curry, traditional pho and traditional bun.
This is a wonderful addition to our Buford Highway rotation and love that it’s kid-friendly and takes reservations. Oh, and it’s BYOB! Even better. 😉
