Atlanta’s Buford Highway is a miles long stretch of diverse, international eats that spans multiple towns and goes all the way into the North Atlanta suburbs. I have Buford Highway 101 and Buford Highway 201 posts that go into some great spots to try. But Thai food has always proved somewhat elusive along the Buford Highway corridor so when I saw a new Thai street-food style place had opened up, I knew I had to try it. Tum Pok Pok is such a welcome addition to the BuHi food scene!
Located in the plaza behind the ever-popular Food Terminal, Tum Pok Pok is bright, colorful, cheer and absolutely beautiful inside!
We started off with Thai Iced Tea and it came out in these cute little pots!
We were a group of 8 so the Tom Kha Kai hotpot was a must. Coconut chicken soup with mushrooms kept warm on the table with a flame? Yum and fun!
While there are numerous small plates there were also plenty of entrees like this beef panang curry that was rich, creamy and a bit spicy.
Roti with masaman dipping sauce may be more Indian/Central Asian but it’s a great addition to the menu as it’s easy to share and was a big hit with our group.
I went years preferring Thai curries to the noodle dishes like Pad Thai in almost every instance but have recently found that I love Pad Thai – it’s perfect during the hot summer months in Georgia. The Pad Thai with tofu that we had was probably the weakest dish, unfortunately. Not bad in any way but a bit bland and definitely not a standout the way the others were.
The Larb Kao Tord was my favorite – crispy rice and minced chicken with bold herbs, lemongrass, peanuts and onions. Served with cabbage leaves for making your own wraps.
The Luk Chin Ping – grilled pork balls with spicy Thai chili sauce – were good and easy to share.
All in all this was is an awesome new spot that is great for groups, couples, solo diners because it offers something for everyone. Highly recommend!
