Earlier this year, I shared progress on our nursery for baby Harrison and am now sharing the photos of the finished room. It’s completely ready for our sweet baby and we are so happy with it.We got the crib and bedding set via Wayfair and love them both. Wanted a more traditional/vintage-looking crib as opposed to the popular ones of today with the wide slats. The lemur stuffed animal is from my cousin Amanda, the narwhal is from my brother Tyler and sis-in-law Kym, and the elephant with baby is a custom piece from Etsy from my mom. The crocheted white blanket on the opposite end is also from my mom. <3
The mobile is handmade from Sean’s cousins Michelle, Julia and Mary Anne. We got the holder for it that turns the mobile and plays “You are my sunshine” – which I surprised Sean with – his mom used to sing to him “you are my sean-shine.” Lovelovelove!
The middle photo is a Jose Fuster piece we got during our trip to Cuba last year. I don’t like to buy art from major retailers but I was really struggling finding two more pieces that felt a bit similar in style (watercolor, lighter colors, etc.) and so the balloon with “Oh, the places you’ll go” and the fox with dream catcher are from Wayfair. So sorry, artist friends. I swear all the other art in our home is from a small artist, antique store, or independent photographer. I am really happy with the way it turned out. Chair is from Ikea and is the only thing in the room we are not sure will stay. Once he moves from our room to sleeping in his crib, I don’t see this being the ideal rocker/sleeper chair but we will tackle that in a bit.
Snagged this solid teak wood because from a neighbor for $45 about a year and a half ago, intending it for future nursery. The Mickey and Minnie dolls were mine as a kid and we have gotten so many wonderful books that we can’t wait to read to our son.
Close-up of the crib. Yes, I know all those items will need to be taken out whenever he’s in there.
Bad lighting, sorry. Curtains also from Wayfair. When we first hung them to the ceiling and they were hanging straight down, it felt a little too dramatic for the room. The tie-backs were the perfect solution. These are also blackout curtains. The photo to the right was taken by my brother, a macro of a bee taking off from a flower against a green background. The piece to the left is vintage – driftwood with a metal owl on it. We got these as a pair and my mom has a similar one in her house in Ohio, so a nice tie-in with grandma. <3
The dresser has been mine since I was a little kid. They do NOT make anything these days like they used to. It’s almost 30 years old and is in almost perfect condition. Diaper pail, laundry basket, changing pad complete this little changing “station.”
We had the white Ikea cubes in another room not really being used and the fit perfectly in the closet to hold the NUMEROUS blankets we got. I also purchased the cloth storage bins from Target, and labeled the size of clothes for each one on the tags so we could easily transition as he grows.
The elephant art is from India and we put the lamp and sound machine right by the door for easy access to switch off and on when we leave and enter the room.
So, so happy with it and can’t wait to watch him sleep in here, and then play as he grows and grows.
