Let me start by saying I’m not an expert on beer. I’m sure there are many others writing critiques of Wild Heaven beers right now, but that’s not what this post will cover. I love to support local and small businesses of all kinds – and that includes breweries! This new spot is long-awaited and we were thrilled to be there on the opening night.
Sean and I were invited to the soft launch of Wild Heaven’s new brewery and tasting room last night by Caren West PR and given complementary entry. Wild Heaven is in Avondale Estates, just outside of Decatur and was a bit of an adventure for me to get to from Sandy Springs!
We pulled up and noticed that there wasn’t much parking. Maybe there was more somewhere that we didn’t see, but we managed to find a spot in front of a building that was closed. Sean was VERY excited to get inside and start tasting some brews!
I loved the space – especially the menu signs and light fixtures – very cool!
I started with the White Blackbird Belgian-style saison. I thought it was really good. I then had Invocation (which I’ve had before and love). It’s a Belgian-style golden ale and really takes me back to my time living in Europe – especially my trips to Belgian. Delicious memories!
I tried Civilization – an English-style barley wine, and Let There Be Light – a “light” craft beer. I’d had Let There Be Light before and I LOVE that there is a craft brewery making a beer with fewer calories but it tasted different last night. Can’t really put my finger on it (remember, I’m not a beer expert) I just remember liking it more in the past.
We enjoyed some bbq from Pine Street Market and some tasty, beer-infused treats from Happy Hour Confections. The “Ode To Mercy” truffle was awesome!
After noshing, Sean and I talked with some friends and drank our beers.
Overall, I had a great time at the brewery and would go back with friends for tastings. I’ll also continue to buy their brews. If I had one concern about the space, it is the bathroom situation – only one for the gals and one for the guys. I can already see the long lines on Friday and Saturday tastings. 🙁 Otherwise, though, the space is great – open, with plenty of space both indoors and outdoors for mingling and imbibing.
Decatur can be a trek for some, but I think Wild Heaven is worth it. Plus, you can always stop at one of the awesome Downtown Decatur restaurants afterwards for dinner.
