Back in August, we attended our first of Lure’s themed, community-style Sunday Suppers, “Coastal Spain.” We loved it and had a fabulous time. When I heard about the next one, I immediately knew we’d want to attend. And the “Luxury Cruise Liner” theme and menu sounded incredible. We’ve been enjoying Lure for years and are so glad they’re having these events. The weekend of this event, my mother-in-law was in town and she offered to babysit Harrison while we went. 🙂The dinner started with these glorious seafood towers with shrimp, oysters, lobster salad, tuna tartare and monkfish liver pate with yuzu gel. Yum yum YUM! So fresh. To me, these are the kinds of dishes Lure excels at and this was no exception. Every bite was delicious and perfectly fresh.
Our welcome cocktail was a twist on the French 75 and it was light and crisp to go with our seafood tower.
Our second course was Squid Ink Carbonara with bacon scallops and Parmesan espuma. The pasta was unfortunately overdone and broke apart as we served it out (all dishes are family-style). The flavors were good though – and the bacon scallops were really good and interesting.
Our third course started with the sides: sherry roasted mushrooms, green beans almondine and classic risotto (not pictured) which was one of my favorite dishes of the evening. The mushrooms were tasty but a little acidic from the sherry vinegar. The green beans almondine were perfect and the risotto was everything there is love to about risotto – soft, creamy, delicate, rich, lemony. I wish I’d had enough room to eat more of it!
The star of the main course was the Salmon En Croute – salmon, spinach, puff pasty, caper beurre blanc. The salmon was cooked just right, though the puff pasty was a bit soggy still on the inside. Not bad overall – seemed like timing issues and I’m glad the fish wasn’t overdone!
There were two desserts. The first was bananas foster which, while yummy, isn’t the best for a communal dinner with it’s ice cream base – it melted really quickly before it could be passed around a table of 16-18 people. A bit of an odd choice, but the show with the bananas and rum on fire was pretty cool.
The second dessert was Baked Alaska and this was my first time ever having it! I liked it – the slight char on the outside meringue, the ice cream on top of a light and moist lime cake, and the fresh fruit and fruit syrup topping made on heck of a decadent combination.
While there were some things tonight that weren’t as well executed as they could’ve been, overall it was another tremendous event and tremendous value – $60 per person for all of this. We can’t wait for the next one! Thanks, Lure!
