Sean and I spent a weekend exploring Williamsburg, Virginia during the two weeks we spent in Manteo at my mom’s. It had been more than eight months since Sean and I had had a night away from Harrison so I wanted to take advantage of having help from family to get away for Sean’s birthday. Williamsburg is only a two and a half hour drive from Manteo and I had not been there since I was in college; Sean since he was a kid so we decided to go back. Continue reading
Summer Trips with Family and Grandma’s 90th Birthday!
It’s been a big year for family! We’ve had lots of visits from grandparents here in Atlanta, as well as a combined trip to Savannah with both mine and Sean’s moms and stepdads, and two weeks in the Outer Banks with my mom’s side of the family. Spending time with and celebrating my grandma’s 90th birthday has been wonderful. Here are some of the special photos from this memorable family time. Continue reading
New Bites: Tum Pok Pok
Atlanta’s Buford Highway is a miles long stretch of diverse, international eats that spans multiple towns and goes all the way into the North Atlanta suburbs. I have Buford Highway 101 and Buford Highway 201 posts that go into some great spots to try. But Thai food has always proved somewhat elusive along the Buford Highway corridor so when I saw a new Thai street-food style place had opened up, I knew I had to try it. Tum Pok Pok is such a welcome addition to the BuHi food scene! Continue reading
New Tastes and Old Favorites: 2021 Savannah Eats
Each year we spend about a week in Savannah and if you’ve been you know it’s not a very big city. That’s absolutely part of why we like it so much. Yet for a small city there is a surprising amount of diversity in the food scene and it continues to grow year after year. For our trip this year around Memorial Day weekend, we also noticed that the city itself has grown with the addition of the new Plant Riverside District along the river front. Multiple new buildings with hotels, shops, and restaurants have greatly expanded the footprint in the area. We were excited to try some of the new food spots this year as well as visit some of our longtime favorite ones. Continue reading
New Bites: Casi Cielo
Sean and I had a date night this past weekend and cycled through many different options and places before deciding to try Casi Cielo in Sandy Springs. We had an excellent experience all around and so I’m adding this to my New Bites series. Continue reading
The Alaskan and the Atlantan Meet in Charleston
When one of your best friends who lives in Fairbanks, Alaska asks you if you want to meet in Charleston for a long weekend in the spring, you say YES as fast as you can. And then immediately book an Airbnb because prices for accommodations in the beautiful Southern city only get more expensive as travel dates get closer.
It’d been about a year and half since Stacey and I had seen each other. She was coming to visit her sister Lindsey in South Carolina and staying over in Charleston for a bit. We were so pumped to have some dedicated time together with our families and explore a fun and lovely place. Continue reading
Spring Break in Laguna Beach, Florida
Harrison isn’t in school yet so it wasn’t technically spring break for us but we were so happy to have a joint trip with Steve and Amelia in Florida’s Panhandle. I had never been to the area before and was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the beaches and local start parks were, how many great restaurants we had to choose from, and the affordability of the rentals. All in all, we had a great time although almost every day was cooler than expected and there was only one sunny day for the beach. We made the most of it and had a great time. Continue reading
Out and About: Gilly Brew Bar
Sean recently found out about a neat coffee shop in Stone Mountain (except it’s not a coffee shop, so they say) and we decided to try it recently. Gilly Brew Bar is Black-owned and in an old mansion so the space is incredible. We had a good experience! Continue reading
