Fresh Juice Friday: Beet-Ginger Juice

After a fun and indulgent long weekend in Savannah, I’ve gotten back to my routine of juicing during the week. I fasted completely on the first day, and then ate one meal each day on the second and third days.

Sometimes I get very hungry, so if I’ve consumed my juice and water and still feel uncomfortably hungry after about 30 minutes, I’ll reach for a small, healthy snack to keep me on track. There are lots of snack products on the market, some are better than others and many are expensive. I think, however, that I’ve found a great solution… Continue reading

A Weekend Filled With Southern Charm in Savannah

Sean and I went to Savannah for an extended visit where I met his mom and stepdad for the first time. They drove up from Florida and stayed in a hotel downtown while Sean and I stayed with my friend Ryan at his house in Ardsley Park.

We had an action-packed, fun-filled long weekend, and I was NOT ready to leave that beautiful city when Sunday arrived. But I know we’ll be back soon, and I’ve got plenty of stories and photos to hold me over. Continue reading

Fresh Juice Friday: Orange-Ginger-Jalapeno

I’m happy to report that I lost 7% of my body weight in the 2-month fitness challenge at work. I did it by focusing on food – juicing to incorporate more vegetables into my diet, and cooking at home with wholesome, quality ingredients. I’m still continuing on this journey, and I decided to share some juicing recipes since I already share many of my food recipes. Continue reading

March Against Monsanto: Stand Up For Your Health on May 25

Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Green – The March Against Monsanto is not about political parties. It’s about WE, THE PEOPLE uniting against the corporations and their puppets in Washington, DC that don’t care about the life, liberty, or pursuit of happiness for any one of us. We have rights and we need to stand up for them in the face of greed, corruption, deception, and coercion.  Continue reading

Summer Chicken Salad

It’s getting warmer (albeit much more slowly than normal in Atlanta) and so that’s got me thinking about recipes and things to cook in a whole new way. One thing I love to do in the warmer months is use my crockpot instead of the oven to cook meats, especially chicken. It doesn’t use as much energy and it doesn’t heat up my whole apartment, saving me on the cooling bill.

While I never have a problem figuring out what to make with my whole chicken for the initial meal, I sometimes struggle with what to do with the leftovers. The chicken is usually flavorful and tender, making it perfect for a variety of uses. I started experimenting and came up with a chicken salad recipe that is a perfect use for this extra roasted chicken. Continue reading

10 Steps to Break Up with Your Big Bank

I hear stories of more and more people wanting to take their money out of corrupt, greedy and law-breaking big banks, and invest their funds into their local communities. However, it still seems that many well-intentioned people are not taking action, and for a long time I was one of them! I recently wrote on my own personal decision to leave Bank of America and move my money to a credit union. Before I decided to do this, I had many doubts, usually focused around hassle of switching, convenience, and the time to research another option.

Having gone through the entire process, I thought it would be helpful to outline in detail how to go about moving your money BACK into your community. It’s not as hard as you think, but it does take some time and planning (just like most other things that are worth doing and worth having!). Continue reading

Highlights from Denver: Snow, Art, Beer, and Food

The bf and I recently returned from a trip to Denver to visit one of his oldest and closest friends. I’d been to Denver as a little kid, so I was excited to be going somewhere “new” and to see and experience a different city. It’s been a long time since I’ve been out West, and I looked forward to nice weather, scenic views, and the vibrant, free-spirited culture I’d heard so much about.

I had a great time, and wanted to share some of the highlights from this whirlwind trip: Continue reading

Healthy Eats for the Air

I recently wrote a post about eating healthy on road trips, which is pretty easy because I can take whatever I want and have plenty of space for coolers in my car. But what about when flying? I’ve never liked eating at airports for cost reasons, but on my recent trip to Denver I had to make sure everything I packed was healthy, too.

Luckily, I’d recently found some great, healthful, and delicious items that I thought would be very travel-friendly and that the bf would love. Check out the list…. Continue reading
