It’s been a fun and fast past six months since my last update on Harrison’s second birthday back in September. Yes, the COVID-19 pandemic has still been going on so we didn’t do any holiday parties or gatherings with friends, coworkers or even family. That part really sucked and we are so over this madness. Despite all that we tried to make the best of things and focus on what was within our control. It’s been a memorable time with Harrison as he’s developed into a curious, spirited, silly and entertaining toddler. I wanted to highlight some of his milestones at two and a half years old. New Bites: Sushi Mito
In Japan, restaurants serve one style of food. There are sushi restaurants of course but also restaurants for ramen, tempura, soba, izakaya…you get the idea. In the U.S., it’s a bit different although I notice that most Japanese restaurants stick to one or two things as their main focus even if they have other dishes. Sushi Mito is different in that it has a huge menu filled with all types of Japanese delights. I discovered this place near Peachtree Corners during my lunch break at work a couple of years ago so this is not a “new bite” for me but it was for Sean and Harrison. Continue reading
New Bites: Banh Mi Cafe
It’s been a delightfully chilly winter in Atlanta this year and we’ve enjoyed getting outside to take full advantage of the brisk air. We like to find new parks (for us) and playgrounds (for Harrison). We recently discovered McDaniel Farm Park in Duluth and have loved going there on weekends. It also gives us the opportunity to try new restaurants in other parts of town. Banh Mi Cafe was our most recent post-playground lunch stop and we will definitely be back. Continue reading
New Bites: OSHA Thai Sushi Galleria
While we don’t get out for date nights as much lately, we still like to try new places when we do get the chance for a kid-free evening. I’d spent some time looking at new restaurants around Atlanta to see what would catch our eye. OSHA Thai Sushi Galleria in Brookwood, with their inventive Thai + Japanese fusion menu, fit the bill. It’s the latest feature in my New Bites series. Continue reading
My Little Triangle Family, 2020 Edition
At the end of last year we had family photos taken by our friend and super-talented photographer, Elizabeth Buergler. She also did the newborn photos of Harrison back in 2018 and I can’t recommend her enough. We knew we wanted the photos to mostly center on Harrison because he’s SO cute at this age. She captured him perfectly – while he’s very silly, it can be hard to get him to smile at times but he has lovely expressions of curiosity and inquisitiveness that I think are just as magical. We’re also thrilled to have several nice family photos in this bunch.
The Roswell location was perfect – I loved the brick buildings in the background and the early evening night to illuminate us. It being late November the trees still had some color on them and we lucked out with a fairly warm day. I hope you enjoy the photos! We’re missing our friends badly as the pandemic continues and wishing for more companionship after the highs and lows of this week with NEW senators heading to Congress from Georgia (change is good!) and the insurrection on the Capitol by Trump/Qanon supporters (a very dark day for our country). May these photos bring you a smile or two and a happy memory of us. 🙂 Continue reading
The Top 13 Things I Ate in 2020
2020 kicked off as an amazing food year. From oysters in the Outer Banks to tasty specials in the Big Apple, I was all set to have many new and exciting food experiences. 2020 had other ideas. Enter: pandemic, rolling shut downs, and border closures. Despite these insane challenges, I still managed to find delicious new bites as well as concoct creative dishes at home. Now in its FOURTH year, I present to you the 2020 version of the top things I ate this year (and here are 2017, 2018, and 2019). Continue reading
My Birthday Weekend in the North Georgia Mountains
When Sean and I first started dating, we went to the mountains for my birthday and did that for the next four years. The tradition kind of died out as we started taking bigger trips around Thanksgiving, like our 2017 trip to Japan. For my birthday this year, my mom offered to stay for awhile on her way back to the Outer Banks after dropping off my grandma in Florida. Sean and I jumped at the chance for an adults-only weekend celebration. Continue reading
Colorado Road Trip: Gunnison, Royal Gorge & Denver
It’s taken me so long to write this but better late than never, right?
The last part of our trip consisted of A LOT of driving. But we saw some pretty incredible things that made it very worth it. We also made our way back to Denver and the instant we were on the other side of the Front Range, I felt the change – far more people, traffic, etc. But Denver is a great city and we found lots of fun things to do and eat. 🙂 Here’s the recap of our last few days in the beautiful state of Colorado.
